Batchelder says Brown is fiscally irresponsible
Challenger criticizes congressman for excessive spending

Excerpted from a letter by Republican challenger Bob Batchelder, Myrtle Beach Herald, 5/2/02

This coming June 11th Republican primary will determine who the congressman will be to represent Horry County and the 1st District.

Voters will have two choices: Bob Batchelder or Henry Brown .

In my view this will be a litmus test on which type of fiscal leadership the people want. The Batchelder type is one of frugality and limited spending and a protectionist attitude for the United States and restricting the size and scope of government .

The Brown type appears to be one of excessive spending at home, traveling abroad at taxpayer expense and generally doing whatever it takes to get reelected so he can do more of the same.

Batchelder wants more campaign finance reform while Brown wants none at all.

Batchelder wants to help American Industry with trade protections; Brown wants to let the President negotiate more of the same disastrous agreements we have now.

Batchelder hates pork barrel politics, while Henry Brown appears to thrive in it.
