The continuing misadventures of a misguided congressman

Brown's all wet on the environment -- still

Here's the latest from our rocket scientist congressman: He actually thinks offshore drilling off the S.C. coast is fine -- despite the fact that it could seriously damage South Carolina's $15 billion tourism industry, create an environmental nightmare and decrease South Carolina's quality of life.

"Pyro" Brown shows his complete lack of any environmental credentials with statements like this in the Chicago Tribune this week:
Rep. Henry Brown Jr. (R-S.C.), who represents Myrtle Beach, is convinced that drilling makes sense.

"If it's OK for Alabama, Louisiana and Texas, it should be OK for other states," Brown said. "Everyone should be treated the same. We are in an energy crisis and we should do everything we can to become more energy-independent--including offshore drilling."

Brown threatens natural resources, takes tainted money

Three new incidents highlight how U.S. Rep. Henry "Pyro" Brown continues to show bad judgment as a member of Congress.
  • In 2000 when running for Congress, Brown accepted $5,000 in PAC money from indicted former House Majority Leader Tom Delay's Americans for a Republican Majority PAC. More: Myrtle Beach Sun News. Brown hasn't commented on returning the money, according to published reports.

  • In late September, Brown bristled when congressional leaders talked about using part of the billions of dollars recently passed in highway funds to pay for hurricane relief, according to the Myrtle Beach Sun News. (Where's your compassion, Henry?)
"We can't just open up the checkbook," he said.
  • In late September 2005, Brown supported a radical proposal to weaken the federal Endangered Species Act, but used doubletalk to sound like he supported it. According to The Seattle Times:
"We should protect endangered species, but not at the expense of our property owners," said Rep. Henry Brown Jr., R-S.C."
We guess we know where Brown's priorities are: tainted money and putting greed before our people and natural heritage.
